In July of 1993, Thelma and Dee Wayne White opened the doors to a small music shoppe in a quiet town in
Eastern Kentucky, offering affordable, individualized music instruction and high-quality musical
instruments to the Kentucky/West Virginia area. Today, over a decade later, the store
carries a full line of
orchestral, band, and bluegrass instruments, as well as the area's largest selection of sheet music and accompaniment tracks by Sound Choice and Daywind.
The Mel-O-Dee School of Music boasts over 100
students of all ages learning music theory, voice, guitar, piano, violin, mandolin, banjo, and more.
Several qualified musical instructors, along with Mr. and Mrs. White, make up the faculty and
staff. Thelma White has a graduate degree in education with 30 years teaching experience. She
handles all purchasing and accounts, and coordinates all music instruction.
Dee White gives lessons in violin, keyboard, and voice. Mr. White has 2 Masters Degrees and a
DMA in music, and served as Dean of Music at Belmont University, Campbellsville University, and
Northern Virginia Community College. Mr White also conducted the Northern Virginia Symphony
Orchestra, and served as interim conductor of the Nashville Symphony Orchestra.
Mr. and Mrs. White believe that everyone should have the opportunity to make music with lessons
that are affordable. They take pleasure in knowing they have provided a quality vocal and
instrumental education to hundreds of students and continue to do so.
